Slurry Method: The slurry method uses chloromethane as a diluent and H₂O-AlCl₃ as the initiating system to produce butyl rubber via cationic polymerization at low temperatures (around -100℃).

Solution Method: The traditional slurry method for synthesizing butyl rubber is a mature technology, but it suffers from low polymerization temperatures, large refrigeration equipment, short continuous operation cycles of the polymerization reactor, and high energy consumption (approximately 35-55 MJ per kg of rubber).

To increase the reaction temperature, extensive research has been conducted on the solution method for synthesizing butyl rubber.
